Inspiration
Have you ever been late to something? We’ve all been there. Maybe it was class, work, or an important interview. And we’ve all thought, how much sooner would we get there if we went a little faster 🤔. Now you can calculate that with SpeedUp! 🚗 💨 ⏱️
What it does
Using a starting address and a destination it shows the distance, normal travel time, new travel time, and time saved using the driving speed set by the slider.
How we built it
We used Bootstrap to display the html and used JavaScript to calculate and work with the Google Maps API and change the html to show the data calculated.
Challenges we ran into
Finding an API that was cost-efficient and fit our purposes was hard with only documentation to follow for a good chunk of our journey. Being mindful of the API Key was also another challenge we encountered. Eventually we were able to get it to work and from there we snowballed into our finished project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of being able to use an API without any prior experience to it and teaching each other different tools in creating the front-end and using Git.
What we learned
While going faster can save you time, it might not be as much as you think. On the note of the hackathon we learned that if you put your mind to it, there is a lot you can accomplish and learn in a day.
What's next for SpeedUp
Incorporating more back-end to work with the API. We also plan to include a map display that will show the route that is planned out by Google Maps.
