Inspiration
Developers and students who spend hours coding every day are at risk of wrist ailments including carpal tunnel syndrome. Our project is both a solution to help people affected by these health problems, as well as a preventative solution that will protect people who are at risk.
What it does
Our project allows developers to code using fewer keystrokes. We do this by providing shortcuts for common patterns. For example, "for 1 20 2" stands for a for loop from 1 to 20 that increments by 2. Other feature we provide are if statements, if else statements, and comments. The speedy code we produce is in JavaScript.
To use our site, enter a command in the text box and hit return.
Commands: for if if else comment // This will automatically wrap the comment to fit into 20-character lines. (Comments could also be set to 80 characters – the 20 is for demonstration purposes.)
How we built it
We used wix, we and wrote our code in JavaScript.
Challenges we ran into
At first we had intended to use voice recognition in our website, but we were not able to get this up and running in time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our most interesting code is in handling comments to wrap around to an arbitrary fixed number of characters.
What we learned
We learned how to use Wix to build a website, and we learned how to make newlines appear in a text box ("\n" does not work, but "
" does).
What's next for SpeedCode
There is room to grow with more features: while loops, switch statements, and many more. Currently our webpage produces code in JavaScript, so another next step is to add support for other languages.
