We were inspired to build our product because of problems we ran into in Office Hours. When the course assistant is talking about class assignments, it is hard for that information to be transmitted to third party forums like Piazza.

What it does

Our site takes in an audio file and displays the written text behind the audio.

How we built it

We used the Assembly AI API for the speech to text model, and hosted the site using Google Cloud Platform's App Engine. We also have the groundwork to use the Twilio API for text verification of user accounts.

Challenges we ran into

This was our first time using GCP, so getting set up with that took quite a while.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of learning how to use GCP and outputting a site for all to use.

What we learned

We learned important skills related to coding such as time management, teamwork, and persistence. In addition, we learned that project scopes must change as you face challenges and dealing with them is part of the process.

What's next for Speech 2 Text

We want to fully implement text verification, and eventually tie our site to a database that will publish records to Piazza, which will help with the office hours to Piazza workflow.
