Inspiration

One of our group member's brother has special learning needs.

What it does

Provide specialized tools to help students with special learning needs succeed in their education further.

How we built it

Using HTML, CSS, and Javascript

Challenges we ran into

Malfunctioning functions/parts of the features and different time-zones.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Developing an effective solution that we believe can benefit many students with special education needs. We also created a speech-recognition tool that we feel is valuable to dyslexic-students that may use our platform especially. We tried to be as inclusive as we could have given the short deadline and we think our team did a great job at pulling through to succeed.

What we learned

More about the struggles that many students with special learning needs face and what software we can implement to help fix that. We also learned about how policy and STEM often intertwine to help solve an issue within a community which we had not recognized before. Despite not having enough coders, we still managed to work together to create a platform that we believe will help so many students in the future.

What's next for Specialized Technological Education Platform (STEP)

Further development and hopefully the real-world implementation of the proposal where it will be used as a supplemental service that connects to actual education platforms used today, like Canvas or Google Classroom.

For clarification: The speech recognition feature helps dyslexic students or anyone who has voice disabilities practice their speaking skills to see if the system will pick it up. This is a great way to utilize some of the simplistic options we have on deck.
