Inspiration

So, I applied to an ideation competition having pre-given problems from which we have to choose one. There was one about learning disability. Since my brother is dyslexic, I instantly choose that so that I could be part of that problem statement track. After completion, we came up with an innovative wearable device with features to help the dyslexic and dysgraphic. That is how we came up with the idea. After discussing it with my brother and teachers, we thought of going ahead with the idea. So we patented it first and started working on a pitch deck. We refined our model and applied it to many B-Plan and innovation competitions. We made sure to take reviews from judges, worked on them, went to different dyslexic sessions to understand better about it, and started working on our very basic prototype. Validated the prototype by making dyslexic children try it and finally applied to the KPMG KICC challenge where we were 1st National Runner Up. So, this is our pretty much journey.

What it does

To solve the learning disability issue among children, our first step is to identify students with learning disabilities and for that, we will have assignments (based on Augmented Reality) in each standard starting from the first standard so that we may identify the students with LD. After this, students will also be provided with SPECable which will help them to work on their disability. SPECable has a camera, a frame, server, memory card, speaker, and neuro sense. The 2 main features of our product are dynamic text to audio matching exercise and real-time data correction of user’s writing. The product can also collect data on how the user thinks (neuro sense) which will provide data and behavioral analysis to therapists who will analyze it and can provide exercises based on their observations. These exercises will be implemented through AR for performance improvement and user engagement.

How I built it

Using a spectacles, speaker, camera and raspberry pie module.

Challenges I ran into

To work on this topic was a major concern as people are not ready to openly talk about Learning Disability in India. They treat this as sensitive topic. To teach people that Learning Disability is not an disorder and can be treated if proper treatment given at an early stage.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

National Runner Up at KPMG Innovation Challenge 2020. Winner of many B-Plan Competitions at top Institutes in India comprising IIM's and IIT's

What I learned

Interacting with pioneers in this field boosted my confidence. Came to know that in India people think learning disability as a disorder and does not talk openly so, i became more focused for making the idea into reality. Researched about LD people and got to learn about their behaviour.

What's next for SPECable

To have a final prototype for testing
