Clear Problem There’s a serious problem with individuals who dealing with mental health issues, and not always having the immediate confidence to deal with these issues.

These individuals have a difficult time finding the right resources or even going to the resources for help. They feel like they are confined to pre-set mindsets from societal norms and have difficulties with deal with their day to day issues.

Let’s take for example, that 20% of Canadians will personally experience a mental illness in their lifetime. Almost one half (49%) of those who feel they have suffered from depression or anxiety have never actually gone to see a doctor about this problem.

Stigma or discrimination attached to mental illnesses presents a serious barrier, not only for diagnosis and treatment but also the acceptance in the community.

What if we could implement a system that allowed you to tell your story your way and let you share it anonymously or publicly from the palm of your hand?

What if an app allowed you to create deeper and meaningful connections while promoting a sense of belonging and comfort through repeated reminders, and support from people just like you while having lots of fun?

Imagine a social media that was extensible enough to empathize with you and help you through the toughest of times.

Clear Solution Over the last 24 hours, our team Motiv, has been developing a unique smartphone application that solves all of these problems; SpeakUp.

Our prototype acts as the bridge to help build deeper connections with people going through mental health concerns and the people who have overcome very similar issues.

We believe that by allowing users to have a social news feed for themselves to cater to how they are feeling in that very moment, we can help them reduce their mental tension and get assistance immediately. Individuals are motivated to stay involved with our application by supporting the people who have helped them through hard times, seeing heartwarming posts to lighten their mood catered to their present emotional state, and connect with people who have had similar experiences. A notification will be sent out connecting you with immediate care and support from companies like Good 2 Talk and Mental Health hotline if you have been going through tough moments for longer periods of time. Cases such as; anxiety from exams, stress from family,or loss of a loved one; whatever it is you will have the support needed with a push of a button. There is registration through anonymous sharing or you can create an account, share your posts as well as support people who have missions help the community.
