Inspiration
The inspiration for SpeakSign: Accessible Communication Hub stemmed from a desire to bridge communication gaps for individuals with disabilities. Recognizing the daily challenges faced by people with hearing and speech impairments, we aimed to create a tool that enhances their ability to interact and communicate effortlessly.
What We Learned
Throughout this project, we gained valuable insights into the unique needs of individuals with disabilities and the importance of accessible technology. We learned how to implement text-to-speech and text-to-sign language functionalities, enhancing our skills in HTML, CSS, and Python.
How We Built the Project
We began by designing a user-friendly interface using HTML and CSS to ensure the platform is intuitive and accessible. The core functionality, written in Python, leverages text-to-speech libraries and sign language databases to provide real-time translations. By integrating these components seamlessly, we created a cohesive and responsive platform.
Challenges Faced
One of the primary challenges was ensuring accurate and real-time translations for both speech and sign language. We encountered difficulties in sourcing reliable sign language datasets and integrating them effectively. Additionally, optimizing the performance to handle translations swiftly while maintaining accuracy required significant effort and testing. Despite these hurdles, our dedication and iterative approach allowed us to overcome these obstacles and deliver a functional, impactful solution.
