Inspiration We started SpeakEasy with a simple idea: everyone deserves to feel confident and connected when meeting new people. Whether it’s remembering a name, a birthday, or a shared story, these small details shape relationships - and forgetting them can create anxiety or missed opportunities.
What it does SpeakEasy is your personal social intelligence assistant. It listens, summarizes, and highlights the most important parts of your conversations - names, hobbies, interests, and key moments - so you can always pick up right where you left off. In real time or after, SpeakEasy helps you sound thoughtful, engaged, and effortlessly confident. It also recognizes the context of the conversation and allow's you to follow up on the relevant news to become a more prepared conversation partner.
How we built it We combined speech-to-text, advanced natural language processing (AWS Rekognition & Transcribe), as well as face recognition and context-aware recommendation models to extract meaning from live or recorded conversations. ( AWS Bedrock and GCP Gemini ) Our pipeline detects emotional tone, identifies key entities, and builds personal “conversation memory” summaries you can revisit anytime. ( Firebase, React, Next, Express, AWS EC2 and S3)
Challenges we ran into Building SpeakEasy meant balancing privacy, accuracy, and speed. Creating a real-time conversational AI that feels seamless yet secure was one of our biggest challenges - and also what pushed us to innovate the most. We also ran into a lot of issues trying to run host our server which we finally were able to solve at the end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We turned a simple idea into a working system that processes live dialogue, understands human nuance, and gives users a confidence boost in every conversation. We hope that our demo app will be used in real production environment as we will be waiting for the feedback to make the product better!
What we learned We learned that social confidence can be engineered. The mix of empathy, data, and design is what makes SpeakEasy more than just a memory tool - it’s a social companion that adapts to you.
What's next for SpeakEasy We’re expanding to mobile and wearable devices to make real-time guidance more accessible. Our next steps include emotion recognition, smarter context linking, and direct integrations with messaging platforms - so SpeakEasy can help you connect better, anywhere, anytime.
