Inspiration
We were inspired by the fact that traditional language learning methods often fall short when it comes to real-world conversations. We've all been there, tirelessly flipping through textbooks and feeling lost in a sea of grammar rules. It just didn't seem like the most efficient way to become fluent in a foreign language. So, we decided to create a platform that allows people to learn languages through actual conversation. We believe that speaking is the key to mastering any language, and we wanted to make it fun and accessible for everyone.
What it does
SpeakEasy is a chatbot that makes learning English, German, French, and Spanish an exciting adventure. It's your personal language buddy, always ready to engage in conversation, answer questions, and help you become a confident communicator.
How we built it
We use speech recognition to understand your words, machine translation to bridge the language gap, and the remarkable GPT-3 model to generate conversational responses. We utilize speech to text and text to speech technologies, and combining these with web development technologies, SpeakEasy was created.
Challenges we ran into
We struggled to figure out the text to speech and speech to text conversion. It was also very difficult to render the database data on our website in the required format.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to complete most of the features we had in mind like speech to text and text to speech conversion.
What we learned
What's next for SpeakEasy
We plan to keep working on the project, and hopefully build it into an accessible learning tool.
