A search for chemical additives in foods as well as some from common Hacker foods listed
Scanning QR codes of snacks to retrieve nutritional information
Detailed information on additives such as their use and if they are sourced from vegetarian products
Tally of day's consumption as well as an estimator for the next hackathon
Inspiration & What it Does
We all love hackathons, but attending several of them within a short time span can wreak havoc on your body. This is mostly due to the typical hackathon diet consisting of high levels of fat, carbohydrates, and various sugars; most of which aren’t burnt off in time for the next event. This app helps you to determine what foods should be avoided by detailing what additives in foods are dangerous and estimating the quantity of a specific food which you can tolerate without causing any harm. The app also estimates how long one should take before attending another hackathon based on how much exercise they’ll do and how much junk food they’ve eaten. This is all done easily through bar code scans that retrieve nutritional information seamlessly.
How I built it
Android app using some REST APIs such as e-additives and nutritionix.
Challenges I ran into
Trying to develop a clear vision for the app in order to avoid redundancies and refactoring of code.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Completing the project as a solo hacker for the first time!
What I learned
How to integrate various APIs together. I had mostly experience with my own backends only.
What's next for sparta2016
Introduce push notification to remind hackers of upcoming hackathons and tell them how much they have to exercise to be able to go (without gaining weight)
