Inspiration: Last year, I began my career as an amateur boxer. Through this experience, I saw firsthand how difficult it was for my coaches to find good sparring partners for me and other fighters. A process that should be straightforward was often slowed down by texts, calls, word of mouth, and limited local networks. After talking to different coaches and gyms such as Church Street, Mendez, and GANG UP boxing gym. I realized this was not just our problem; there was a real need for a better system. That friction and constant struggle to find the right sparring partners is what inspired SparringClub.

What it does: SparringClub is a platform that helps boxing gyms and coaches discover one another, view relevant fighter information, and coordinate sparring opportunities more efficiently. Instead of relying on scattered outreach, users can explore a live map, identify nearby gyms, compare potential matches, and streamline the process of setting up sparring. The goal is to reduce friction, expand access, and improve the overall sparring coordination system.

How we built it: We built SparringClub as a web-based platform centered around a map-first experience so users can quickly discover nearby gyms and sparring opportunities. We designed the product around separate gym and trainer workflows, fighter visibility, and location-based matching. On the technical side, we used Base 44 with a mix of altering individual lines of code when in the code preview mode. As well as prompting from ChatGPT.

Challenges we ran into One of the biggest challenges was taking a very relationship-driven, informal process and turning it into a structured digital system without making it feel complicated. We also had to think carefully about how to present the right information for sparring decisions, since sparring decisions in combat sports depend on multiple factors, not just location. Another challenge was balancing functionality with usability so the platform felt polished and easy to navigate. Finally, funding was another challenge, as it was all saved-up money used to develop this project from an idea into a website and app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of: We are proud that we built a project solving a real-world problem in a niche community that is often overlooked by mainstream platforms. We are especially proud of turning a messy, manual workflow into something much more streamlined and visual. We are also proud that SparringClub is not just an idea; it is a clear, usable system with a strong practical application for coaches and gyms.

What's next for SparringClub Next, we want to expand SparringClub by improving matchup filtering, adding more detailed fighter and gym profiles, and making communication between gyms even more seamless. We also want to strengthen trust and safety features so coaches can make better sparring decisions with more confidence. Over time, we see SparringClub growing into a broader infrastructure platform for combat sports matchmaking, helping gyms connect more efficiently on a much larger scale.
