Inspiration
We were inspired by how navigating the ASU website can often feel overwhelming for students who just want quick access to the right resources. Many struggle with finding what they need, whether it’s tutoring, counseling, or student involvement opportunities. We wanted to create a tool that removes those barriers and makes support accessible in an efficent and simpler manner.
What It Does
T.I.L.T AI is a smart chatbot designed to understand a student’s needs and connect them to the exact ASU resource they’re looking for. Instead of spending time clicking through menus and endless links, students can simply ask our mascot, Sparky.AI, a question and get personalized, accurate, and supportive guidance immediately!
How we built it
We built the website using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python for the front and back end. To power the AI, we integrated GeminiAI, which allows the chatbot to understand the prompts and context and deliver tailored responses that integrate ASU's resources.. We used FastAPI for efficient backend communication and JWT tokens for secure authentication. The front-end experience was enhanced with React for smooth interactions.
Challenges we ran into
We built the website using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python for the front and back end. To power the AI, we integrated GeminiAI, which allows the chatbot to understand context and deliver tailored responses. We used FastAPI for efficient backend communication and JWT tokens for secure authentication. The front-end experience was enhanced with React for smooth interactions as well.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully builting a fully functioning website that connects the frontend and backend.
- Developed an AI chatbot that works in real-time to assist students.
- Learned and applied new technologies (FastAPI, JWT, React) within the hackathon timeframe.
- Created a tool that has real potential to impact student success at ASU.
- Creating a log in page that uses encryption (not to bring difficulty for students, to fulfill the "most impractical" section of our hackathon!)
What we learned
- How to build with FastAPI and integrate it into a web app.
- Best practices for HTML customization to create a polished user experience.
- Secure handling of JWT tokens.
- Using React for responsive, interactive web components.
- Teamwork and collaborating to bring an idea to life in a short period.
What's next for T.I.L.T.AI?
- Expanding the chatbot to cover a wider range of ASU resources based on real student feedback.
- Improving the user interface and personalization, making it even more intuitive and aesthetic!
- Add more gimmicks to our login page, and remove admin log in (just for fun to make it more impractical for future "most impractical" sections in future hackathons!)
- Possibly collaborating with ASU to roll out this website (hit us up, Sparky! :D)
