Titanomachy: An Exciting Way to Explore My Passions for Video Games and Social Issue Resolution
Inspiration (Social Problem)
-Social Problem: Antisocial Behaviour
-Covid-19 pandemic has increased percentage of people with antisocial behaviour in society, making people develop isolation habits & not feeling motivated to attend social settings
-The pandemic has made many individuals, like myself, start playing video games and staying indoors, offering a sense of security
-Now, people do not know how to rebuild lost connections and meet new people
-My game enables antisocial, introverted gamers to more comfortably reintroduce social connections, being a 2-player game on one device (making them invite others over to play)
-Provides convenient environment for introverts to connect, talking and bonding over a shared passion
-Easy to build relationships, being side-by-side while playing
Learnings
-Realized number of different parts to making a successful video game (animation, gravity, object interaction, etc.)
-Learned how GitHub branches worked & how to use image files in my code file in the repository
How I Built It
-Applied OOP (created Eris and Enyo objects with methods for their health bars, jump gravity, melee attacks, etc.)
-If-elif-else structures to check for collisions from opponent's attacks, landing on platforms, changing game screens, etc.
Challenges
-Trying to create instances of my Eris & Enyo classes when my game is running
-Getting sound effects to match the jump, melee, and long range attack animations
