Normal remotes suck.

It doesn't take a particularly bright individual to figure out that needing to keep track of more than one remote is a pain in the rear.

So do universal ones.

Maybe you decide to pick up a fancy new universal remote instead, one that can obviously fix your horrifically broken entertainment control system.

Problem one is that your "universal" remote may not even work with some brands of electronics, or you won't be able to find the codes necessary to get it to work.

Problem two is that every remote has weird, non-standard buttons that have to be assigned to boring, generic buttons on a universal remote.

That's why we came up with a better one.

In comes the Spark Remote. Problem one is addressed through having the Spark Remote copy the signals sent from other remotes. No messing with codes that may or may not work. Problem two is solved by not having physical buttons. Wait, what?

Imagine if we had some sort of device that could display an infinite amount of simulated button configurations on some array of pixels and react to touch input! Oh, wait, you've got that sitting in your pocket.

Here's how it works.

So your phone becomes your new remote. Rather than directly outputting an IR signal, it talks to the Spark Remote (which is ready to blast your TV with IR) over the internet and lets it know what signals need to be sent.
