Inspiration

We wanted to create an app that would solve the current Doomscrolling problem that's going on in our society. We got our base inspiration from the idea of journalling but realized that not everyone has the time nor means for journalling on the daily. So, we had the question of how to make this more accessible to more people and something easy and happy to do is instead of words, images. Posting photos to this digital archive/ journal.

What it does

It provides a space where you can post daily (or really whenever you want) polaroids or sticky notes to a digital archive/ journal. Instead of the constant pressure of social media or some mental health apps there is no pressure to visit everyday and is purely on a needs be basis.

How we built it

Cameron built the backend, Willow built the frontend and Rebecca helped orchestrate the systems and environments.

Challenges we ran into

  • Rapid AI prototype did not support editing
  • New tools were difficult to learn quickly
  • Debugging frontend/backend connections ## Accomplishments that we're proud of We created a prototype app that carries the principles of our idea where we made a front and backend that function together. ## What we learned
  • How to use AI more effectively to support the coding process
  • Git branching strategies
  • Environment management and automation techniques
  • Javascript
  • Frontend / backend
  • UX Design ## What's next for Spark Joy (Un-Doom-Your-Scroll) For what's next we would like to add a social aspect to our app, focus on phone app development , create a secure user login and design a custom sparkler animation.
