Inspiration

Problem Statement: Throughout the pandemic, our relationships were deeply rooted in online interactions, and upon transitioning back to in-person, we’ve noticed it’s become more difficult to develop connections with peers like we once used to - not to mention the convoluted process of having to search multiple online platforms to access resources Target Demographic: CSULB Students Competitive Analysis: Meetup, EventBrite, Early Facebook, & Reddit User Needs: Convenience, Personalization, Connection, Sharing Information, & Collaboration

What it does

This is a Full-Stack App, where each user can create Posts that members within the same school(community) can opt into to meet up for that specific event whether it be online or offline

How we built it

We build it using Next.js(13.2), Google Firebase/Firestore, and TailwindCSS

Challenges we ran into

We ran into alot of challenges, which included doing a Hackathon for the first time and trying to work as a team when all of us had varied skillsets, and often times in the beginning would get stuck on what we would build instead of preparing ideas beforehand which caused alot of hiccups during our coding journey. As the engineer I think I focused too much on finishing out features that were trivial to the MVP like trying to perfect the UI/UX and Frontend.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're actually quite proud of how it came out to look, I didn't think I would get a good looking product in <24 hours but we are proud of how nice it ended up turning out

What we learned

What we learned is that it is better to just go on and start building out on an idea rather than trying to figure out what the best idea would be to choose, that way more of our problems are caused by engineering/logic related events rather than internal debates on non-engineering-related topics like deciding a topic.

What's next for Spark

I think Spark has a bright future as being a product similar to Meetup.com but meant for students. There are actually tons of features we would want to develop for the app which I think would make the app much better than it is now.
