Inspiration

Ideas rarely appear when we sit down and try to force them. They appear unexpectedly — while walking, observing, listening, or thinking. But most of the time these ideas disappear before we can capture them.

Creativity is an invisible human experience. We feel it, but we rarely understand when it happens, why it happens, or what triggers it.

This project was inspired by the idea that if we could detect those invisible moments of inspiration, we could help people understand their creative patterns and become more aware of how their creativity actually works.

What it does

Spark is a speculative sensing system that detects moments of inspiration and helps people understand the hidden patterns behind their creativity.

Using imagined wearable sensing through devices like smart earbuds and context-aware glasses, Spark detects subtle signals of cognitive excitement — moments when the brain experiences a creative spark.

When a spark is detected, the system captures the surrounding context and creates a Spark entry inside the app.

Over time, these sparks are analyzed to reveal patterns in a person's creative behavior.

Key Features

Spark Detection Spark detects moments of inspiration through speculative wearable sensing and automatically captures them as Sparks.

Sparks Timeline Each spark appears in a timeline where users can revisit the moment and expand it into a full idea with notes, voice recordings, or images.

Insights Spark analyzes captured sparks to reveal patterns such as creative rhythm, triggers, environments, and idea categories.

Creative Identity Spark transforms insights into a creative identity profile that helps users understand their natural creative tendencies and creative direction.

How we built it

The entire concept was designed using Figma, including the interface, interaction flows, and prototype.

The experience was structured around three key layers:

• Capturing moments of inspiration • Understanding creative patterns • Building creative self-awareness

The prototype demonstrates the Spark timeline, idea capture flow, insights dashboard, and creative identity system.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was designing a system that deals with something as abstract as creativity.

Because creativity is invisible and highly personal, we had to imagine how sensing technology could detect moments of cognitive excitement and translate them into meaningful insights.

Another challenge was balancing complexity and simplicity — presenting deep creative analysis while keeping the interface intuitive and focused.

What we learned

This project showed us that creativity is not just about ideas — it is about patterns.

By capturing and analyzing moments of inspiration, people can begin to understand when they are most creative, what environments trigger ideas, and how their creative mind actually works.

Spark explores a future where creativity becomes something we can not only feel, but also understand.
