Inspiration
Spark+ was inspired by a close friend who has been through many difficult experiences in life. Over time, certain words, environments, and social situations began to trigger strong emotional reactions for him. Because he is naturally introverted, these moments often felt overwhelming and difficult to explain.
Watching this made me realize that emotional triggers are often invisible. People only notice them after stress or anxiety has already escalated. I began wondering: what if people could detect emotional triggers before they happen?
Spark+ was designed as a speculative tool to explore this idea — giving individuals a new form of awareness that helps them recognize emotional triggers early and respond with control rather than reaction.
What it does
Spark+ introduces a new sensory concept called Trigger Awareness.
The system helps users:
- detect emotional triggers earlier
- identify environments and interactions linked to stress
- receive real-time alerts before emotional escalation
- practice guided breathing and emotional regulation
Spark+ visualizes emotional patterns through an intuitive interface that includes:
- an emotional awareness dashboard
- real-time trigger alerts
- a trigger map showing environmental hotspots
- a healing mode with guided breathing exercises
By turning invisible emotional signals into visible insights, Spark+ helps individuals better understand their emotional patterns.
How we built it
Spark+ was designed as a speculative product concept using Figma.
The project involved:
- defining the emotional trigger problem space
- designing a conceptual sensing model for trigger detection
- creating a structured UX flow for awareness and response
- building interactive prototype screens in Figma
The prototype includes four key screens:
- Dashboard – emotional awareness overview
- Trigger Alert – real-time detection notification
- Trigger Map – environments associated with emotional triggers
- Healing Mode – guided breathing for emotional regulation
These screens were connected into an interactive prototype to demonstrate how users would navigate the system.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was translating a complex emotional concept into a clear and intuitive interface.
Emotional triggers are highly personal and subjective, so designing a system that could communicate emotional insights without overwhelming the user required careful UX thinking.
Another challenge was balancing speculative technology with realistic user interaction. Since the project explores future sensing capabilities, the interface needed to feel believable while still communicating innovative ideas.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a concept that combines emotional well-being with thoughtful design.
Spark+ successfully demonstrates how technology could help people:
- better understand emotional triggers
- gain early awareness of stressful situations
- respond calmly rather than react impulsively
The project also resulted in a polished design prototype that clearly communicates the product vision.
What we learned
Through this project we learned the importance of designing technology with emotional awareness in mind.
We explored how product design can support mental well-being by focusing on:
- proactive awareness instead of reactive solutions
- simple and calming interfaces for sensitive experiences
- ethical considerations when dealing with emotional data
The process also strengthened our skills in UX storytelling, interface design, and speculative product thinking.
What's next for Spark+
The next step for Spark+ would be expanding the concept into a more advanced emotional awareness platform.
Future directions could include:
- wearable integrations for physiological sensing
- AI-assisted pattern detection for emotional triggers
- deeper personalization based on behavioral history
- collaborative modes for therapists and mental health professionals
Spark+ represents a first step toward exploring how technology can help people better understand their emotional experiences and build long-term emotional resilience.
