Inspiration
My personal belief is that every person can contribute in someway to make society better. This contribution doesn't necessarily have to be in the form of money. It can be in the form of Pro Bono work.
E.g doctors can contribute half an hour of their service to treat a person. An Engineering student can spare half an hour on Sunday to help maintain the website of a NGO.
In earlier time Society was organized via the institution of barter. You help your neighbor/relatives and in return when you need help you depend on them to return the favour.
However the barter economy has some serious drawbacks.
Barter requires two people to have mutual wants and they have to agree on a common price for goods and services. To circumvent this problem Money was invented. Money is not only a store of wealth but also a fungible intermediary medium that can help solves the problems of mutual wants and indivisibility of goods and services.
What it does
This social non monetary platform helps connects people who can donate or give pro bono services to people who require help by exchanging goods and service.
In exchange they receive smart contract enabled crypto-tokens which can later be redeemed or exchanged for goods and services within the eco-system.
How I built it
Built a proof of Idea using nodejs. The Proof of concept will be done using Ethereum as a platform for smart contracts and crypto-tokens.
Challenges I ran into
The scope is fairly large and one person cannot finish a project of this magnitude in a day.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Showing NGO's that with todays technology its possible for people to help without using money. Using disruptive technologies its possible for people to spare some time and make a qualitative difference in the lives of the differently abled or seniors citizens.
What I learned
Loved the experience of being able to work with diverse groups of people and trying to find a way relating to their problems
What's next for Spare Capacity
With hope of hackathon community try to get a working example and take this platform forward
