Space Time Rail Road is your ticket to the Metaverse! Built on the servicemedia.net platform, STRR is a cloud-based, cross-platform app that aims to make creating and sharing virtual worlds as easy as blogging.

Users can navigate an array of linkable scenes, populated with streaming audio and shared photos, and interactive objects such as keys to different scenes. By approaching and touching these keys, and then entering a gate, the user is transported to the new scene. Registered users will login to the servicemedia.net platform to create, configure and share these scenes, and upload streaming audio, photos, text content and messages, and 3D meshes, all of which is scattered in the customized environment.

The GearVR version of the app will require, for now, a handheld bluetooth controller such as the Samsung GP20 (I don't yet have a headset to test the touchpad). The "A" or #1 button toggles between flying and walking mode (defaults to flying) and the "Y" or #4 button takes a screenshot. The app is also functional via touch interface on mobiles, keyboard/mouse input on webplayer, as well as other dual stick analog controllers shown here: http://www.gallantgames.com/pages/incontrol-supported-controllers.

Innovative elements of this project include dynamic, cloud-based scene construction, using a selectable mix of runtime procedural techniques and asset bundle streaming, uploadable, cross-platform (transcoded to ogg and mp3) streaming audio and pictures, cross-platform sharing and deep-linking of scenes (testable via the apk available at http://spacetimerailroad.com), and a high-performance, custom back-end written in node.js and mongodb that supports the app and the web config interfaces at servicemedia.net. Here's an endpoint of the restful api (for the welcome scene) that shows the data model: http://servicemedia.net/scene/Yi1G5Q
