Inspiration

Twelve years ago, we launched Gneo, a task and calendar management app that won Apple Editors’ Choice and Best App of the Year. It helped tens of thousands of people around the world manage their time and focus on what truly mattered.

Years later, we noticed that most productivity tools still contribute to chaos rather than reduce it. There was still no app that helped people prioritize with intention and plan around their schedule using tools like the Urgent-Important Matrix. So we decided to bring Gneo back, reimagined as ‘Spaces’.

Spaces is a task and calendar app that puts your to-dos on your calendar, because as Jim Rohn said, “Success is built on discipline,” and “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.”

What it does

Spaces helps users regain control of their time by combining task management, prioritization, and scheduling. Users group tasks into customizable “spaces” for areas of their life like Work, Health, or Personal Projects.

Using the Urgent-Important Matrix, Spaces helps you see what really matters, make time for it, and follow through. Then, it places those tasks right into your calendar, because if it’s not scheduled, it doesn’t get done.

The result is a calm, focused, visual approach to productivity that keeps your goals front and center, helping you follow through and turn intention into action.

How we built it

We designed and developed Spaces over the past year, starting with design concepts and evolving the product alongside iOS 26 to take advantage of the new Liquid Glass design.

Our team is:

  • Sam: Designer in Australia
  • Martin: Developer in Macedonia
  • Anthony and Tatum: Product in the San Francisco Bay Area (Irish and British)

Spaces is built using SwiftUI with native integrations for Apple Calendar and Reminders.

Challenges we ran into

  • We set out to bring the magic of our original app Gneo into Spaces, building on what worked, learning from past experience, and creating something even better
  • Building a smart way to schedule tasks around real-life, packed calendars proved more complex than expected. We’ve laid the groundwork, and more advanced logic is coming in V2
  • Designing a clean, simple UI that supports both prioritization and planning without feeling overwhelming took careful and thoughtful iteration
  • It was a constant challenge to balance feature depth with ease of use, especially when introducing concepts like the Urgent-Important Matrix

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • A unique, gesture-based UI that feels fast and smooth to use
  • Visual clarity and simplicity that feels native to iOS 26
  • Staying true to our original vision while evolving the product for iOS 26

What we learned

  • Real impact comes from helping users shift how they think about time, not just track it
  • Everything takes longer than you think, especially when simplicity is the goal
  • Prioritization is a user need that hasn’t been solved well in current apps

What's next for test

Now that Spaces is live on the App Store, we’re excited to:

  • Gather feedback from early adopters
  • Iterate on how tasks are scheduled based on calendar availability
  • Explore intelligent suggestions for scheduling and prioritizing using AI and AI agents.
