Inspiration

Navigating through bustling streets, identifying accessible restrooms, or finding a quiet corner in a noisy environment are everyday challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, including both physical and mental ones. These challenges were brought to light during casual conversations, painting a vivid picture of the barriers that something as simple as a non-functional lift can create. Inspired by these real-world narratives, SPACES was envisioned as a tool to foster a community-driven approach to mapping accessible spaces, making the physical world more navigable for everyone, including those with anxiety issues who require safe and tranquil spaces.

What it does

It shows on the maps the available ramps and accessibility ramps and tranquility spaces where any person, regardless of physical or mental disabilities, can locate the services available to them.

How we built it

It was built using python for the backend and flutter for the frontend. We also used Firebase and BestTime for the extrapolation of data.

Challenges we ran into

It took quite a long while with getting the base framework working and the mapping software.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We finished the app, and functionality is maximized.

What we learned

How to code from scratch. We also learnt about the basics of api and how to import external API's to a python program

What's next for SPACES

  • Introducing features like real-time updates on the operational status of accessibility equipment and information on quiet times.
  • Expanding the community and engaging with local businesses to enrich the database of accessibility information.

This provides a unified and organized presentation of your information.
