Inspiration
Being a space enthusiast, I wanted a mobile app that I can use to read the news and play quizzes on topics related to space.
What it does
- Read the latest news about space exploration
- A daily dose of information and trivia is there on the home screen, which includes an article of the day and a question of the day.
- For space enthusiasts who love to see images, we have a section which displays the astronomy image of the day
- Space enthusiasts can test their knowledge about various space topics by playing a quiz. Each quiz contains 10 questions.
How I built it
I built the mobile app using Java and Android Studio. I used NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day API and NewsAPI for fetching news related to space. I used Google Volley to call the APIs.
Challenges I ran into
Integrating the NASA API was a challenge but persistence helped me overcome it.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Design is an important aspect of any app and it was a priority for me. I am happy that I was able to design an app with good UX.
What I learned
I learned to use NASA's API and also to make charts.
What's next for SpacePlore
I am planning to add a Wiki section containing wikis related to space exploration.
