We were looking up for an interesting idea for space launch app and we found an app that visualizes oil exporters and importers and we decided to use that idea for space rocket launches.
What it does
We have created a platform for those interested in space events. Our service can show the history of all launches of space rockets. We display launches on the 3D Earth model. Launches are grouped by cosmodromes, which differ in the size of the circles, so that you can understand where more rockets are launched. At the moment, you can see the history of successful launches, unsuccessful launches, all launches, and you can filter launches by year. In the right menu you can find all the necessary information about the launch of the rocket.
How we built it
I was responsible for the 3D visualization part. I had a little experience in OpenGL and Three.js. I manage to create a visual representation of rotating earth with bump texture, some lighting, and labels for data.
Challenges I ran into
We were working separately on three.js stuff and on rest of UI stuff. And we had a lot of problems merging it together.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We created the working, production-ready app with a cool design.
What I learned
I learned more about three.js and angular
What's next for SpaceLaunch
We are planning to improve earth visualization and add new filters.
