Inspiration
University students often want to eat better, but canteen menus are not personalized. We wanted to create a solution that helps students quickly choose meals that fit their body goals, dietary restrictions, allergies, and budget.
What it does
UNutrition recommends 3 suitable canteen meals for each user based on their profile, including age, height, weight, gender, nutrition goal, food preferences, allergies, and budget. It is designed to make meal selection easier, healthier, and more practical for student life.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was constant build and setup troubleshooting. A major issue was realizing too late that Google AI Studio was not a good fit for a Spring Boot and Angular workflow, which cost us time and forced us to rethink part of our approach. We also had to deal with integration complexity between the planned backend, frontend, and recommendation logic.
What we learned
We learned that tool choice matters a lot, especially when working with a specific stack like Spring Boot and Angular. We also learned the importance of validating technical assumptions early, keeping the scope realistic, and focusing on a clear user problem before adding extra complexity.
