Inspiration
As a beginner hacker, I wanted to try out my skills in this hackathon to make a game in a very short amount of time. So I picked up Space Invaders as a project. However, I wanted to polish it further but did not have enough time to do so. Therefore, I decided to change the model to a planet shooter, and finally submitted the game on time.
What it does
It is an endless top-down shooter where you play as a spaceship and shoot planets which come as obstacles on your way!
How we built it
python and pygame-ce was used for the game
Challenges we ran into
A lot of minor bugs were accumulating in the game leading to an overall bad experience. It took a lot of efforts to fix them and make the game feel better.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Although the hackathon was 48 hours long, I made the game in only 15 hours. It was a fun experience!
What we learned
Learned more about game development, and the advantages of using Singletons in an OOP based languages, although that is not often encouraged in OOP.
What's next for SpaceFire Blitz
Update the game and add more content!
