Inspiration

Our difficulties navigating Brown University's many webpages to find information on our classes, majors, events, and more

What it does

Fetches data from Brown websites, like C@B, and links it in one location.

How we built it

Languages: HTML, CSS, Python, JavaScript, React Technologies: Django, Selenium, BeautifulSoup, GoogleLogin, API

Challenges we ran into

Sleep deprivation, pizza dinner, lack of sunlight (we were in a basement for 12 hours)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learned how to use Selenium to automate interactions with websites, BeautifulSoup to extract data from the websites, Google API to create events explicitly through a website, Django framework to build a functional website, database management with SQL, and user authentication

What we learned

The above

What's next for Spaced out

Sleep (and finish the project). On a serious note, we were also planning to have an automated degree tracker, which reads the courses you've taken and those you've left to take, and recommends different combinations of courses you can take for the rest of your semester. We also want to scale up to include more information from C@B and also from other brown websites like ASK, Brown Dining, Brown Events, Bulletin, etc.

Cool thing we're proud of

A user can register, login, and logout. Every registered user is registered as a student which automatically updates the database and fetches information for that specific user.
