Inspiration

Imagine you are the person on Earth stuck on a ship heading straight into the sun. You have to work with your enemy. A sarcastic computer program. To survive. We got this idea from characters like GLaDOS. We wanted to make a game where you solve puzzles to survive, not a sad one.

What it does

Spacecraft Puzzle is a game where you click on things to solve puzzles:

  • The Battery Hunt: You have to find batteries in two rooms (Cockpit & Maintenance) and fix a broken computer system before the ship hits the sun.

  • The Persuasion: When the computer wakes up it won't help you away. You have to talk to it deal with its jokes and convince it to teach you how to navigate the ship to Earth.

  • The Twist: If you win the computer might not work as expected

How we built it

  • Game Engine: We built the game using Pygame, which helps with the graphics, mouse clicks and game management.

  • The Brains (AI): We used a computer program with a custom system to make the AI funny and sarcastic.

  • Web Deployment: We used Pygbag to turn the Python code into something that works on the web so people can play it in their browser.

Challenges we ran into

  • Web Compatibility: We had to change the way Pygame works so it doesn't freeze the browser.

  • API Latency: We had to make the game work smoothly even when the AI takes a second or two to respond.

  • Scope Control: We had to make the game smaller focusing on two rooms instead of five to make sure it works perfectly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • We got a Pygame project to work on the web.

  • We made an AI character that reacts to what you do.

  • We made a working game that's fun and polished all within a short time.

What we learned

  • How to use Pythons `library to make games for the web.

  • How to make the AI stay in character.

  • How to make a game thats really good and funny.

Whats next for Spacecraft Puzzle

We want to add fun 8-bit sounds, rooms, on the spacecraft and different endings depending on how you treat the AI.
