SpaceAid: Keeping Emergency Communication Alive When Networks Fail
I'm excited to share the progress of SpaceAid, my solo hackathon project focused on disaster-resilient emergency communication.
The Problem
During disasters like floods, traditional communication networks can fail, leaving people unable to report emergencies or communicate with rescue teams.
Our Solution
SpaceAid explores how critical emergency information can keep moving through alternative communication routes when conventional networks become unavailable.
Key Features
- Emergency SOS reporting with location and incident details
- Mesh-network routing with alternative paths when a node fails
- Satellite connectivity fallback simulation
- Rescue command center with emergency queues and network status
- Emergency severity assessment to help prioritize incidents
Tech Stack: Python, FastAPI, JavaScript, Vite, HTML, and CSS.
Progress and Achievements
Developed during a hackathon, SpaceAid represents an important milestone in my journey as a software developer and my interest in building technology that addresses real-world challenges.
What's Next?
I'm looking forward to improving offline reporting, exploring real mesh-network hardware, and developing a more robust emergency-response platform.
My vision is simple: a world wher
