Our inspiration for this was to learn about basic graphic/GUI-related programming through coding a simple and fun game in Python. This is meant to be some basic entertainment for anyone using a computer.
What it does
This game's objective is to use arrow keys to navigate the rocket to rescue the aliens while avoiding collisions with the asteroids and meteors.
How we built it
We used Python, specifically Pygame to build this game.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into simply had to do with the unfamiliar syntax used for pygame, rather than anything related to algorithms.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Some accomplishments that we're proud of are simply creating a program involving graphics for the first time, and essentially coding something from start to finish in a limited amount of time, since we're rather new to this entire process.
What we learned
We learned how to use pygame for making games and somewhat familiarized ourselves with the functions and objects, so that we can use these skills in later projects. We looked at documentation and tutorials from inventwithpython.com through various google searches to help us during this process.
What's next for Space Rescue Game
Some ideas we have for improving Space Rescue Game are to store the scoring data in a database that is saved even after the session ends. We want the user to be able to view their statistics and also have the potential to earn different power-ups as rewards for certain scoring criteria. We also may try to implement varying difficulty levels unlocking new challenges and obstacles.
