Inspiration

Inspiration comes from the different backgrounds of our teammates! We have people who are into mental health, space, and also pixel art. Exercise is a known booster of mental health so we thought to combine our interests into this project.

What it does

It takes you to different planets and tracks the time that you have spent exercising or the steps that you have taken.

How we built it

We planned our UI/UX on Figma and the app was built in Android Studio with Kotlin.

Challenges we ran into

We originally planned for this game to be on IOS but with the majority of teammates having windows computers and the lack of support for IOS development, we ran into many roadblocks. We spent the majority of our time downloading XCode which didn't even end up working.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of our ability to learn a new coding language and IDE within such a short time frame. More importantly, we persevered through the challenges of IOS incompatibility and finished our project to the best of our ability though significant time was lost. We had only met each other the morning of Hack@Brown, but we had a very collaborative work environment and successfully combined different members' strengths into the project!

What we learned

For the majority of our team, this is our first time using Kotlin, Android Studio, and Figma This was a great learning experience (with lots of roadblocks)!

What's next for Space Race

We want to make the App work more similar to the Figma design. Currently, we only have one planet page with minimum functionality in android studio, so the next step would be to expand! There could also be more functionality such as a pedometer and more assets to collect!
