Space Quest

Inspiration

We wanted to make a program that would allow learning to be fun for kids. Many online math programs may prove to be boring or difficult for children to focus on. We wanted to create an educational platform that would challenge children while keeping them immersed in the experience.

What it does

Our game has many levels and the children can choose either a mental math practice or a spelling practice path. Our Spelling practice is still under works while our math path is playable. Children can travel from planet to planet as they solve questions and level up.

I worked on the graphics by using turtle graphics to create planets and a starry night screen that went along with the written code. My teammate worked on the written code such as setting up the problems and creating different levels with varying difficulties for the user to traverse through.

I worked on the introduction. I used colorful text to match the space theme and make it more engaging for the user. Then, using a series of inputs and prompts, I allowed user to choose the game. I worked on the different levels while my teammate worked on all the graphics. The graphics allowed the user to jump from planet to planet as they leveled up. This makes this educational platform a more fun and immersive experience. My teammate was also responsible for connecting the actual game to the graphics.
