Inspiration
After our recent return to the moon with the artemisia missions, intergalactic travel is fresh in our minds. I feel homesick just leaving for vacation for a few days. As a team, we couldn't imagine the mental struggles of the people on board an interstellar journey.
What it does
The app is a VR experience that lets you experience that lets you experience the ocean, forests and mountains using a 360 video render.
How we built it
We used unity engine, to load 360 degree videos of the earth. All the logic is done in C#.
Challenges we ran into
Actually getting the videos to load has been a pain and It is still not working reliably. Best we could get was about 2 seconds of playback before a computer crash. The rendering is too process intensive.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We got a home-page with selection options for different earth biomes.
What we learned
We learned a lot about unity and 3d object rendering in these 24 hours. We tested our equipment to the limits with realistic elements, trying to get as real as we could.
What's next for Space Museum
Optimization and search for more computational power for sure as we have had multiple computer crashes and only 1 computer in the group is capable of powering the meta quest.
