Inspiration
We were inspired by Cutie Hack's theme: "Journey beyond the stars!" From the start, we knew we wanted make a space exploration game.
What it does
In our game, you play as a green alien who's cat escaped her rocket. You need to find kitty and save it before its too late. The player has to correctly find and click on the cat three times to win. A miss click or taking to long means losing the kitty.
How we built it
We used python and pygames to create a loop that randomly scatters space junk and the kitty across the screen. Clicking on the kitty takes you out of the loop and a loss or win is displayed.
Challenges we ran into
we found it really difficult to incorporate a timer into the game. We felt it was crucial to make the game more challenging, but neither of had ever worked with time in a program before. It took a lot of research, but was definitely worth it to fully flesh out the game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are really proud of completing a project for our first ever hackathon. Since our team is only two people and we joined late, we were super worried about running out of time. Finishing a project we can be proud of in such a short time feels like a massive accomplishment.
What we learned
We learned how to use pygames and time in python.
What's next for Space Kitty Rescue
Space Kitty Rescue has plenty of room for improvement. if we had more time, we would add more types of space junk as well as more visuals throughout. We would also love to add more of a story line, with clear exposition or animations.
