Inspiration

Inspiration was just Space Invaders, but we wanted to add a more modern twist to the game to make it more interesting than it used to be back in 1978.

What it does

It works like the classic game Space Invaders, but now you have an option on the main menu to be able to use your points as currency for abilities for your ship. Older games used to highlight your score as a competitive aspect between players, but modern audiences don't care as much about that sort of thing. So now you can use those points to make yourself stronger!

How we built it

We built it using the Unity engine and the tools Unity gives you, we also used some programs like Photoshop to make some of the assets.

Challenges we ran into

It was the first time we've ever participated in a Game Jam and made a game starting from scratch that wasn't a school project, so the only challenge we faced was adapting to the time constraints of a 24-hour assignment while also plunging into the deep waters of making a game for the first time on our own.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were proud that we were able to make a decent game within the time period, even underneath the pressures previously mentioned in the challenges section. This is something we'd happily put on our resumes after a little bit of polish work outside of class time.

What we learned

We learned how to make quick and quality work in a short period of time, better organization within Unity to prevent confusion, and learned more about how scripts work and interact with each other within Unity.

What's next for Space Invaders Revamped

If we were to continue this game after this event (which we are interested in doing) there are a few things we want to polish about the game: no more bullet spamming for the player, edit things in the shop menu and how buying abilities works in general, and we'd also just like to polish some glitchy areas of the game that we had.
