Inspiration
Illegal maritime activities are more common than we think: illegal fishing, contraband of oil, ships hiding while trading goods to avoid international sanctions... Space-Eyes provides technology to the Department of Defense to support National Security.
What it does
We detect ships that suspiciously turn off their AIS (a localization device in ever ship) by using aerial imagery.
How we built it
We use state-of-the-art machine learning methods and Earth Observation sensors on board of satellites to detect rogue ships.
Challenges we ran into
Detection systems provided by third party service providers are missing ships. Better technology needs to be developed that uses more sophisticated algorithms.
