Inspiration
When we were introduced to the theme of Exploration, our minds shot straight to the stars and decided to make a video game about space exploration
What it does
It loads up the Solar System that we are in, along with information when interacting with a planet. We also have a home screen that has the option to start the game or to quit the program. Another notable feature is that on the home screen, on the bottom left-hand side, we included a Settings button so people who may have trouble accessing things will not be left out. We added one accessibility feature which was to increase the text size with a toggle bar
How we built it
We made use of some libraries and made different files and one main file to run the code. We also made use of OOP to make objects in Python. We made a file for the planets and orbit, another for building characters, one to load the terrain of each planet, one for the background of the planets, and one to run all of this.
Challenges we ran into
Some files were not used, such as characters and controlling their exploration of the planet We did not have enough time to code our initial idea Some of our code did not want to run and had to find ways around it Could not do it in 3D as we planned
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Able to render the Solar System Produce a 2D version of everything we have done so far
What we learned
Fun experience coding, since it is our first Hackathon Good challenge
What's next for Space Exploration
We may work on this after our Hackathon since it is a good business idea to make a space exploration video game
