Inspiration
We were inspired by full-time BCIT students leading a hectic academic life, sometimes forgetting to have a proper eating and sleeping routine to the detriment of their physical and mental health.
What it does
SPACE is designed as a comprehensive time management and reminder application focusing on enhancing users’ study habits and health routines. It incorporates timer systems to motivate users to mediate, sleep and study, especially those with ADHD or similar attention-related challenges
How we built it
We got together and decided to build a web based application due to its powerful development potential in both the client side and the server side. We used React.js in the front end to create a peaceful environment interface for the user and Node.js Express in the backend to build a RESTful API connecting to a MongoDB database, storing user data.
Challenges we ran into
We experienced scope creep, building a back-end for multiple features for the user. We implemented the core features of our app in time for the submission deadline.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is a beautiful application that is fully functional and can be used by students, or any person really, experiencing pressure in their lives due to looming deadlines and other busy life events. It reminds people of putting physically and healthy habits to the forefront of their lives again.
What we learned
We learned that so much could be accomplished within a restricted amount of time. We learned the importance of prioritizing the implementation of core features of the project and estimation of the magnitude of each task.
What's next for Space
We will continue to develop the application and implement the features built-for and ready in the back end on the client side. We already have a prototype hosted on github pages and railway.app to be built-upon and readily accessible to the users.
