Inspiration
Our team has a passion for game development, visual, and auditory arts. We decided a great way to combined our passions was to pay tribute to the classic Dinosaur Game.
Tools Used
We Developed our game primarily from Unity using C#. We used Piskel & Pixel Studio for the pixel art and sprite design and animation. Additionally, the musical soundtrack was composed and arranged in GarageBand.
- Github for version control and project managing
- Unity and VS code for main game development
- C# language used for Unity scripting
- Piskel & Pixel Studio to draw and animate sprites
- Garage Band to create music
- FreeSound.org for jump SFX
- GoDaddy, Cloudflare, and Itch.io to make our game playable on the web
Challenges and Learning Experience
- Learning Unity, C#, Piskel, and Garageband for the first time for one of our team members.
- Downloading and configuring Unity, VS Code, and Github.
- Crouching mechanic and other various game bugs.
- Learning to make WebGL builds.
- Directing custom URLs to existing websites using Cloudflare
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of the art that was put into our game. The sprites look adorable. In addition, our game mechanics like jumping and ducking are feel very natural and clean. We also feel the soundtrack music fit with the aesthetic and theming perfectly. Overall, we we are thrilled to have built a functioning web game in less than 24 hrs!!!! We can't overstate that that enough.
Giving Back to underprivileged communities
We decided to use a '.gay' domain. The .gay registry donates 20% of revenue (not just profit) from every new .gay domain name to LGBTQ organizations. The inaugural beneficiaries of these funds are GLAAD and CenterLink.
