Inspiration

We were inspired by the terminal interfaces in retrofuturistic media like Alien and Fallout to create a text based simulator game where you control a futuristic space base.

What it does

Space Base Simulator is a browser-based simulator game that places you in control of a fictional space base, and allows you to resolve randomized scenarios with natural language response, talk to your AI assistant C.O.R.A., trade with both alien lifeforms and other players, and engage in combat with other players, all while learning an alien language in your free time.

How we built it

We built the project using the Deepspace SDK, Elevenlabs API, and Claude Haiku 5.5 to create an AI-powered assistant named C.O.R.A. This assistant is able to give you help in situations throughout the simulations, read scenarios out to you using Elevenlabs API, and understand your natural language responses to the randomized scenarios presented to you. The UI works naturally across both desktop and mobile thanks to React, and all backend programming was done using TypeScript.

Challenges we ran into

We had a bit of a learning curve with the DeepSpace SDK. It took us longer than we thought to get the AI Assistant up and running and making sure the AI assistant would be able to grab context from all other parts of the app. However, we were able to complete our goals in time and we're ultimately proud of what we did.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're extremely proud of our ability to implement multiplayer into the project, our AI integrations with Claude and Elevenlabs, and the retrofuturistic visual identity we are able to implement into our project that works across desktop and mobile.

What we learned

This is our group's first project using TypeScript and React, building with AI and model integrations, and making a project that works seamlessly across mobile and desktop. We learned a lot about building AI apps with DeepSpace and are excited to see what we can do in the future.

What's next for Space Base Simulator

If we had more time before submission, we would have tried improving the mobile interface, along with expanding the scenario system by adding more random scenarios and possibly trying to implement more specific context recognition of natural language responses.
