SovereignShield AI

Deceive. Detect. Verify. Defend.

Inspiration

Cybersecurity teams often face a difficult challenge: detecting suspicious activity is only the first step. Understanding what happened, verifying evidence, protecting sensitive information, and deciding how to respond can require significant time and expertise.

We were inspired to build SovereignShield AI, a privacy-first, multi-agent AI cybersecurity investigation platform designed to help small security teams investigate suspicious activities through a structured and explainable workflow.

Our goal was to explore how AI agents could assist security analysts without giving up control over sensitive data or critical security decisions.

What It Does

SovereignShield AI brings multiple investigation stages into one platform:

  • Honeypot Lab: Captures suspicious interactions in a controlled local environment.
  • Threat Detection Engine: Identifies suspicious patterns using deterministic detection rules.
  • AI Investigation Agent: Analyzes incident context and generates investigation summaries.
  • Evidence Verification Agent: Cross-checks findings against available incident records and evidence.
  • Response Planning Agent: Suggests defensive actions for security analysts.
  • Privacy Center: Redacts sensitive information before sending permitted data to external AI services.
  • Human Approval: Keeps security analysts in control by requiring human approval for consequential response actions.

The platform is designed to support NVIDIA Nemotron through Nebius AI Cloud when valid API access is configured. It also supports a clearly identified local fallback mode.

How We Built It

We approached the project as a multi-stage security investigation workflow rather than just another AI chatbot.

We developed a dashboard to monitor security activity, investigate incidents, explore evidence, review AI agent outputs, and manage response approvals.

The core workflow follows:

Capture → Detect → Investigate → Verify → Recommend → Approve

We combined deterministic security checks with AI-assisted analysis. This separation is important: AI helps interpret information and recommend actions, while security controls and human approval remain responsible for consequential decisions.

We also focused on privacy by introducing redaction before external AI requests and maintaining structured incident and evidence records.

Challenges We Faced

One of our biggest challenges was designing a multi-agent workflow where every agent had a clear responsibility instead of simply generating generic AI responses.

Other challenges included:

  • Building a reliable connection between the honeypot, detection engine, investigation agents, and dashboard.
  • Making AI-generated findings traceable to available evidence.
  • Protecting sensitive information before external AI processing.
  • Handling missing API credentials without falsely claiming that an external AI model was running.
  • Designing human approval controls so that suggested actions are not automatically treated as executed actions.
  • Creating a premium, professional cybersecurity dashboard while keeping the investigation workflow understandable.

We addressed these challenges by separating deterministic detection from AI reasoning, using structured records, and keeping human oversight in the response process.

What We Learned

Building SovereignShield AI helped us understand that effective AI-powered cybersecurity is not just about detecting threats.

We learned about:

  • Multi-agent AI architecture and task separation.
  • Cybersecurity investigation workflows.
  • Honeypot-based threat observation.
  • Evidence-based and explainable detection.
  • Privacy-aware AI integration.
  • Human-in-the-loop security automation.
  • The importance of reliable fallbacks and transparent system status.

Most importantly, we learned that AI should assist security professionals, not replace their judgment.

What's Next

We plan to improve detection accuracy, expand controlled honeypot scenarios, strengthen evidence correlation, enhance investigation reports, and further develop the Nemotron-powered investigation workflow.

Our long-term vision is to make advanced, privacy-conscious security investigation capabilities more accessible to small security teams.
