Inspiration
First, as a developer who has integrated RevenueCat into two previous applications, I have a deep appreciation for its ability to simplify the complex world of cross-platform subscription management. I wanted to leverage that expertise to build a robust, scalable business model from Day 1. Second, I’m a "power user" of my own product—I’ve always wanted a unified recipe manager that actually understands the data I’m saving, rather than just acting as a digital bookmark folder.
What it does
SousChef is an all-in-one AI culinary assistant that transforms the way home cooks discover, plan, and execute meals. It Import recipes instantly from any URL or physical photo. Input what’s in your fridge, and the app cross-references your own library to suggest the perfect meal, reducing food waste and "decision fatigue." A premium scheduling tool that helps you organize your culinary week. A voice-guided, step-by-step experience designed for the heat of the kitchen.
How we built it
Expo, Supabase, Gemini AI
What I learned
This hackathon was a deep dive into the practical application of Gemini AI. I learned that AI’s true value in the kitchen isn't just "reading" text, but its ability to perform intelligent synthesis. I successfully implemented logic to:
- Convert Unstructured Data: Transforming messy, ad-riddled blog HTML into strict, searchable JSON.
- Complex Unit Normalization: Teaching the AI to "think" like a cook—automatically combining disparate units (like grams, sticks, and cups) from multiple sources into a single, unified quantity for the shopping list.
- Contextual Substitutions: Using AI reasoning to suggest replacements based on the chemical and flavor profiles of ingredients.
