Inspiration We all have the same problem. You see a recipe on TikTok, save it, and never cook it. Your Instagram saved folder is a graveyard of meals you meant to make. Recipe apps exist, but they require you to type everything in manually, and none of them connect to where you actually discover food — social media, YouTube, your grandmother's cookbook. We wanted to build the app that closes that loop. Not another place to save recipes. The thing that actually gets you cooking.

What it does Souschef captures any recipe from any source — paste a URL, share a TikTok directly to the app, or photograph a cookbook page — and converts it into a clean, structured cooking guide in seconds. From there it guides you through cooking step by step with voice narration, so your hands stay free and your eyes stay on the pan. You can ask questions mid-cook and get an instant spoken answer. Built-in timers and preheat reminders keep you on track without thinking.

How we built it We built Souschef using a modern web stack. The frontend is React and Tailwind CSS. The backend runs on Node.js and Express with a PostgreSQL database. AI powers the recipe extraction and mid-cook Q&A. Voice narration is handled through ElevenLabs. Video transcripts are pulled from YouTube and TikTok URLs and fed into the extraction pipeline.
