Inspiration
We’ve all been there—scrolling through social media, spotting a funny meme or a cool image, and wondering, “Where the heck did this come from?” That curiosity is what inspired us to create Source Hunter. It’s a place where people can finally get answers to those random image mysteries! Whether it's a viral meme or a scene from an obscure show, we wanted a fun, interactive way for the community to come together and figure it out.
What it does
Source Hunter is like a detective for the internet! You can upload the link to an image, ask the community where it came from, and let the sleuthing begin. Other users jump in to comment with their thoughts and research, and if their answer is on point, you can even reward them with BTT tokens! Plus, you can upvote and downvote comments to make sure the best info rises to the top.
How we built it
We built Source Hunter using BitTorrent Chain for all the blockchain magic. The site itself is built with a simple yet sleek interface, allowing users to easily submit image links and interact with the community. We integrated smart contracts to store submissions, comments, and upvotes/downvotes immutably on the blockchain, and we used MetaMask to handle wallet connections. Everything runs smoothly so users can focus on discovering the source of those mysterious images!
Challenges we ran into
Like any great detective case, we hit a few roadblocks along the way! One of the big challenges was making sure all interactions—like submitting images, commenting, and rewarding users with tokens—were seamlessly stored on the blockchain without causing a slowdown. Another tricky part was designing an intuitive interface that was easy to use but also engaging for users looking to solve image mysteries.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re super proud of the fact that Source Hunter is truly community-driven and powered by blockchain. The reward system using BTT tokens is something we’re really excited about because it encourages users to provide valuable information while making the whole process fun and rewarding. We also managed to create a platform that’s both user-friendly and technically solid, which was no small feat!
What we learned
One of the biggest takeaways from building Source Hunter was just how important user experience is. While blockchain brings a ton of benefits like transparency and security, it can sometimes complicate things for everyday users. We learned how to simplify the interface so anyone could hop on and start hunting for image sources without needing to know all the tech behind it.
What's next for Source Hunter
The future is bright for Source Hunter! We’ll be optimizing the platform for mobile, so you can track down image origins on the go. And of course, we’ll keep expanding features like sorting questions by popularity and improving the forum to make it an even better place to discover the truth behind all those mysterious images.
