Inspiration
We thought deeply about what we could practically make the biggest difference in. After our research, it seemed like helping modernize information about available food resources and providing more information would be useful.
What it does
Provides information about food banks nearby and includes information about volunteering, dietary restriction accommodation, hours, location, days of operation, and more.
How we built it
We used a combination of HTML, CSS, Javascript, and a longitude-latitude API. We used AIs to generate images and food kitchen data to simulate the real world functionality of the website.
Challenges I ran into
We began using React, but found that our experience level was insufficient to fully utilize it. We also tried to incorporate a fully fledged backend to connect with the frontend. If the project were continued, we would allow the intake form to allow individuals to add food banks.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The website looks quite clean, and the way that we used an API and mathematical formulae to calculate distance was quite interesting.
What I learned
It may be best to use technology that you know when time constraints are very small and tight.
What's next for Soup Group -- Soup Kitchen Aggregator
With more time, we would improve the data upload process and the recommendation system will allow for filtering.
