"One common complaint within the cue sheet submission process is that inaccurate stakeholder information is unknowingly submitted to the PRO. With numerous music stakeholders attached to one cue sheet, the process to get “sign-off” is so arduous that it is often ignored. We’d like hackers to look at innovative ways that stakeholders can collaborate with one another to verify their data, sign off on it, and also see what progress has been made on a cue sheet and if it’s been received by the PRO."

What it does

Relevance and Impact to Industry

Goal of Soundwave is to decrease the barrier to entry to music with a simpler, more effective platform around cue sheets and artist payments. A music creator is a composer, songwriter, or lyricist who would claim a portion or all of the “Writer’s” share of a Performance Royalty. With music streaming, Spotify has 8 million artists but only 13,000 artists made at least $50k in 2020 at a rate of $3,700/1 million streams.

Our goal is to free up a music creator's time to make music — and not spend hours on administrative work in order to get paid. Everyone in the world listens to music, but the global music industry size is tiny at $21B (Gaming $152B, Box Office $42B). Fans can't own a song to show support on streaming platforms and demand curve economics does not support the idea of “100 true fans” or “1,000 true fans”.

The future of music is a shared economy where artists & fans can co-own music together. Soundwave opens the door for artists to retain independence and creative control as fans fuel their careers. Cue Card royalties decentralized platform for collection & distribution of public performance royalties. Artist can sell royalty ownership in songs for fans to invest in, and they get exclusive fan content connecting with PRO. Anyone to own a piece of their favourite songs to earn royalties alongside the artist. When the artist succeeds, fans can claim royalties for the music they own after they have accrued.

How we built it

MVP app that redefines, improves, and possibly automates the Cue Sheet process with the BMAT API to look up and verify the music metadata that confirms the stakeholder’s information.

Time stamps to establish a point of origin for music creators on the ledger. Blockchain handles heavy transactions at scale of global commerce compared to Visa Benchmark. Performance royalties Tokenization with IPFS Blockchain storage for looking up and verifying the music metadata that confirms the stakeholder’s information. Each tokenId has a specific tokenURI that defines this API call, which returns a JSON object that looks something like this Assign tokenIds to their tokenURI, NFT marketplaces will be able to display your token -Image is using a URL that points to IPFS InterPlanetary File System -Every time the image is updated, the on-chain hash/tokenURI also has to change, meaning that we can have a record of the history of the metadata Ledger stored on crypto wallet where music royalty assets are stored and shared on Filecoin, and IPFS protocols with data in the distributed web and data representation formats (IPLD) and network communication protocols (libp2p).
