SoundSleep

Inspiration

We were inspired by the growing issue of noise pollution in urban areas. Many people, including our team, struggle to sleep because of constant sirens and traffic noise.

What it does

SoundSleep is an AI powered app that detects disruptive noises and play calm and soothing music to mask the noises creating a relaxing and comfortable surrounding.

How we built it

We built our project by first brainstorming a prominent problem relating to climate justice (how noise pollution affects your sleep). Since the problem was so specific it was easier to find a specific solution. After that we used the help of AI to code the actual solution which is the result you see today.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge was coming up with the right solution. We originally tried to design something that could completely stop noise, but we realized that wasn’t realistic. Instead, we decided to reduce and mask noise which is a more achievable goal .

Accomplishments that we're proud of

With us being so new to this hackathon stuff, we are proud of coming up with an idea that we would actually use. However, we are most proud of figuring out how to code the solution since most of us have little to no coding skills.

What we learned

While researching this topic we realized how overlooked the problem of noise pollution is, there are are so many negative effects that just come from this one part of climate justice. While developing our solution, we learned what to consider such as the Audience, Problem, and solution specifically targeting the how, what, and why behind each aspect. (We learned this from the wonderful workshop and the amazing mentors!)

What's next for SoundSleep

Our next steps for SoundSleep is to improve user interface to make it more easier to use, add it to the app store to make it more accessible to everyone, incorporate a predicting feature where the app predicts noises around your environment the more the user uses it, and our main goal is to create a wristband where the users wears it to sleep to track their sleep.
