Soundscape

We built SoundScape because every drive has a mood, but navigation and music apps treat every trip the same. We wanted a system that understands the context of your drive: your mood, the weather, the traffic, and the environment around you. Using Mapbox navigation, real-time weather and traffic data, Spotify’s audio features, OpenAI GPT-4o, and FishAudio voice control, SoundScape generates playlists that shift with the moment. We learned how to combine multiple live data streams, enforce structured AI output, and tune music selection using measurable features like valence, energy, and BPM. Challenges included handling Spotify OAuth in Expo, syncing playlist updates to avoid jarring transitions, and building a safety layer that auto-pauses music during heavy rain. Integrating FishAudio taught us about low-latency voice detection and building hands-free interactions that support driver focus. In the end, SoundScape became an emotionally aware, safety-focused driving companion that transforms navigation into a dynamic, personalized experience.
