Inspiration
I have a huge passion for music and many of my best summer memories are paired with the songs I listened to frequently at the time I made them. Because of this, I knew I wanted to do something with music for this hack-a-thon; furthermore, the sponsors seemed to have applicable products for this goal.
What it does
Sounds of Summer takes a few keywords given by a user and comes up with a groovy music selection over some warm summer visuals.
List of (intended) features:
- Text / Voice music search
- Audio Player with display
- Music Visualizer
- Song Queue
How we built it
This project was a website, and at that mostly front-end. Node.js and python were used for assembly.ai and co:here's APIs.
Challenges we ran into
Per usual, time was the biggest factor. This was the first time I was by myself so there was a lot to take on. Also, pretty much all of this was brand new so learning it all was pretty intense (though for sure rewarding).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm happy with what I learned and how much I got done. I do feel like much of the implementation was there.
What we learned
So much. I had close to no website experience before this, and certainly no experience dealing with both back and front-end. The python was easy enough, though implementing it through Node.js proved to be a challenge.
What's next for Sounds of Summer
A whole lot. I brainstormed so many ideas on this, and feel that I barely scratched the surface with what I was able to implement. Regardless, it was super fun to make and I'm glad I took part this weekend.
