Inspiration

Many people we know, including us, enjoy listening to music while working because it helps them focus. However, there are times when important information is missed because the volume of our headphones is too high. Thus, for ease and comfort of listening to music while surrounded by people, we designed the Music Controller to address this problem.

What it does

The program adjusts the headphone volume according to conversation detected by the microphone. It's specifically designed for team members so that they can simultaneously listen to music, work, and discuss ideas without missing information. In order to accurately adjust the volume, we establish a baseline at the beginning which quantifies the average background noise. From there, the volume is changed if the audio input exceeds a threshold value determined by nearby voices.

In the future

Use machine learning to differentiate between loud background noises and people talking. Personalize the program to recognize the types of environments and volume preferences of the user.
